Since the kidney is one of the most vital organs in the human body, it goes without saying that people need to do everything possible to stay clear of complications, which includes kidney stones. For those unfortunate individuals who have kidney stones, myself included, we constantly seek ways to combat the dreaded pain and agony of going through it. We are always looking for alternatives and solutions to dissolve kidney stones and not have to go through the pain and suffering anymore.

Most doctors are of the opinion that the main alternative to avoid kidney stones is for each individual to have a change of lifestyle. In some ways I agree with that statement, but I argue it to the point that I now several people that live an active lifestyle, eat healthy, and yet still developed kidney stones. So, is just being active an alternative to prevent kidney stones? I think there would be some other factors involved with this, which would include an individual's family health history.

However, I am a firm believer that drinking plenty of water does help in some way to prevent kidney stones. I'll explain why. By drinking plenty of water daily, usually recommended between six to eight glasses. You are giving your body one of the most valuable substances it needs to help eliminate wastes, and this is particularly true with the kidney. Doctors state that for the kidney to function properly it needs adequate amounts of liquid, preferably water. If the kidney receives the daily amount of water recommended, the kidney will function better by eliminating more of the impurities or waste from your body.

By eliminating more waste from the body, this in turn helps to prevent crystals forming which eventually transform into kidney stones. As for the change in diet to prevent kidney stones. Fiber is probably the number one item to increase. An increase in fiber will help the digestion system which in turn also helps the kidney. Two items that you do have to consider reducing in your diet are heavy amounts of protein and of course, salt. If you are prone to kidney stones, salt is probably your biggest enemy as it helps stones to form more easily.

Being active helps tremendously with the prevention of kidney stones for the simple reason that your body is performing functions which is keeping the internal parts moving. As well, it just makes sense to keep your body functioning through physical activity. Even if you are not the type of person that is involved in any sports or recreational activity, you can still be active by walking, jogging, or any type of physical movement. This not only helps in the prevention of kidney stones, but helps you to maintain an overall healthy lifestyle.

Take the time to understand your body and what it is going through. If you have lived a sedentary lifestyle for a number of years, than it is obvious that you need to incorporate some sort of physical activity. It was hard for me as well to drink water, especially eight glasses. I was a loyal soda drinker for years, it didn't matter where I was, at work, events, traveling, it didn't matter what I was doing, I just needed a soda. I knew by giving up soda it wasn't a kidney stone remedy, and I also knew by drinking more water that wasn't going to dissolve kidney stones. But, I also knew that if I didn't start to change something in the way that I was living, I would continue to suffer with the pain of kidney stones.
